New Vision for a New Year

The New Year, 2020, is here. We are beginning a new year and a new decade in history. What will we see this year? As a man with naturally poor eyesight (with 20/200+ vision, uncorrected), I am thankful that I can see as well as I can with corrected vision (almost 20/20 with my contacts). And the year “2020” reminds me of the need for spiritual vision. Physically I can see well enough what is in front of me. But what about spiritually?
Jesus said in Matthew 6:22-23, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
What does He mean by this? In the context He is speaking about the heart – the CPU, if you will, of life (Proverbs 4:24). If the “eye” (the heart, that is) is full of what is good – “single”, meaning healthy – then the vision will be clear (“full of light”) and the way good. But if the eye (heart) is full of evil, then the vision will be dark and the way difficult.
As you begin this new year and decade it is vital that your vision be clear. We are instructed to keep our vision on Jesus Christ – “looking unto Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2) and guided by the Word of God in daily life – “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).
Make it a point to begin each day in God’s Word – listening to the voice of God to guide your way in the light.
