What We Believe
The following is a condensed version of the Statement of Faith (Doctrinal Statement) of Refuge Baptist Church.
The Bible. We believe that the 66 books contained in the English Bible are inspired by God in every part and every word and that the Bible is the sole authority of faith and practice for man.
Dispensations. We believe that God has worked among men according to divinely appointed dispensations that define man’s responsibilities in different ages. These dispensations do not determine different ways of salvation but simply help to define God’s way of dealing with mankind.
God. We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who are coeternal, identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and with the same attributes and perfections.
Jesus Christ. We believe in the full deity and full humanity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, born of a virgin who, through His vicarious death on the Cross, provided redemption for all men.
Holy Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God whose work is to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment and who regenerates and indwells believers.
Salvation. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and that man is unable to remedy his lost condition by his own efforts.
Eternal Security. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.
The Church. We believe that the Church, both the local church and the universal Church, which is the Body and the espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born again persons and that the local church is to be free of any external authority or control in matters of faith and spiritual practice.
Separation. We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord. God commands His people to separate from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations.
The Second Advent of Christ. We believe in the pre-tribulational, pre-millennial, personal, imminent and visible return of Jesus Christ for His saints in the Rapture of the Church and in His Return as King after the Tribulation for a literal 1,000-year reign on earth.
The Eternal State. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.
Satan. We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin; that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man; and that he shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire.
Creation. We believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour periods. We reject Evolution and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin.
