Monday Morning Blues

I’m sure you’re familiar with those mornings – especially Monday mornings – when you wish you could just stay in bed and let the world go on without you!
Well, believe it or not, church pastors are not exempt from those days! After a busy Sunday, in which we give our heart and soul to the preaching of God’s Word, encouragement for other believers who need it, and fellowship with the church family, Monday can come with that let-down feeling that, if left unattended, would cause every pastor to offer his resignation on the spot!
This morning (being Monday) was no exception for me. Not sleeping well because of a sore knee didn’t help! But, as my practice is every morning, I got my cup of coffee and my Bible. My reading happened to be in Philippians 4 today. I confess that I had to read it several times before my mind could be brought into focus. But when I did, I realized that I was reading one of those constant reminders of God’s care for anyone suffering from the “Monday Morning Blues”.
“Be careful (anxious) for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep (protect) your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Our emotions and feelings can be strong and overwhelming at times. But when we bring them to God in prayer – pouring out our hearts and feelings to Him – He understands and assures us that, in Him, through Jesus Christ, everything is under control (His control).
Amazingly, when I gave the Lord the burdens of my heart, He assured me – through His Word – that He was taking care of everything, and those feelings all but disappeared. I then “tore up” my “resignation” (which was only in my mind, not on paper).
